Inspiring the Next Generation to Rethink the Future of Travel

Last week, students from Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) joined us for Sustainable Tourism Day in Amsterdam, exploring what sustainable tourism means in practice and why it matters for the future of our industry.
The day began with an inspiring keynote by Professor Machiel Lamers of Wageningen University, who encouraged students to reflect on the opportunities and responsibilities that come with travelling and working in an increasingly interconnected world.
Throughout the day, Amsterdam became a living learning environment. Students visited a sustainable Corendon Hotels & Resorts, discovered the stories of Amsterdam's minority heroes, explored businesses making conscious choices, and experienced how food and hospitality can contribute to a more sustainable future.
What made the day especially meaningful was the students' engagement—their curiosity, thoughtful questions, and willingness to challenge assumptions. Their reflections reinforced an important message: sustainable tourism is not only about protecting the environment; it is also about supporting local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and making conscious choices that create positive impact.
We are proud to bring together schools, universities, and local changemakers to create learning experiences that connect theory with practice and inspire future generations of responsible travellers and tourism professionals.
